How To Get Your Cat To Use Their New Cat Bed

First decide on the style of cat bed you want. There are lots of styles to choose from:

  • Igloo or hooded cat beds that provide a cosy hideaway for your cat
  • Soft oval or round bed with high sides giving a sense of security
  • Wicker cat baskets which give a reassuring creaking sound as your cat moves around to get comfortable - cats seem to love this in our experience
  • Cat radiator bed which gives warmth and comfort from the radiator in the Winter and provides a comfy place for your cat to sleep in the Summer when your radiators are most likely to be switched off
Some cat owners like novelty cat beds. You can get them in many novelty designs such as dustbins, slippers or a cute large mouse. While being fun for us humans they are also designed to be an ideal sleeping and resting place for cats.

Alot of cats like to sit on a winow ledge or on your furniture. In this case you could use a cat blanket, a small pet mattress or a fleece cat bed which is perfect for placing on chairs.

Once you've decided on what sort of cat bed you want what if your cat refuses to use it?

Start by making the cat bed a good place to be. Put some high value treats inside like chicken or tuna. Even a favourite toy. When your cat shows any interest in their new cat bed give lots of praise. The key is to make it a positive place to be.
