White Fish and Parsley Cakes for Cats and Dogs
- 250g of boiled potatoes*
- 250g of white fish (ie. coley or haddock)
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon of dried parsley or fresh if you prefer
Boil the potatoes until soft for about 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile put the fish in a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to the boil and then turn off the heat and allow to poach for 5 minutes. Flake the fish, remove any skin and don't forget to make sure all bones are removed.
Mash the boiled potates, add the parsley and flaked fish. Mix together and form into fish cakes (whatever shape and size you want).
Heat the olive oil in a frying pan and cook the cakes for about 4 minutes each side and golden brown. Place onto kitchen paper to drain and serve to your cat once cooled.
* If your pet has arthritis substitute potatoes for sweet potatoes
Savoury Trifle for Dogs
- 150g of boiled brown rice
- 250g of turkey mince
- 1 large carrot
- 100g of peas
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- Dog gravy designed for pets (do not use human gravy ie. oxo etc as its too high in salt). Dog gravy can be found at some supermarkets in the dog food section or here.
- Dried parsley for decoration
Bring a saucepan of water to the boil and then add the rice, turn the heat down and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile blend the peas and carrots together until just blended or chop finely.
Heat the olive oil in a frying pan and add the turkey mince. Cook over a medium heat and once the mince is almost cooked, turn the heat down to low and add the dog gravy and then the pea and carrot mix. Cook for a further 5 minutes or until the mince has cooked through. Do not allow to boil at this stage.
Once everything is cooked get a casserole dish and ladle the turkey mince mix into the bottom. Add the rice on top and finish with a sprinkle of parsley. Serve when cool.
Sadies Wheat Free Cookies
- 2 cans of sardines in olive oil or natural juice
- 2 - 3 tablespoons of oatbran
- 1 egg
- Half a cup (or mug) of water if the mixture is too dry
Preheat oven to 170C and grease a backing sheet with a little olive oil.
Place the sardines, oatbran and the egg into a bowl and mix well, breaking up the fish. Add the water, and the sardine juices from the can if the mixture is too dry, until it has a dropping consistency.
Shape into little balls and place on the baking sheet. Press down to form a cookie. Bake for 15-20 minutes and leave to cool in the oven with the door slightly open.
Cookies can be frozen for upto 4 weeks.
